How big or popular is paintball?

Rapidly growing in popularity, paintball is played in at least 70 countries outside of the United States, and there are numerous playing fields (both indoor and outdoor) open year around. For the tournament player, there are several tournaments every weekend during the prime (summer) playing season, with worldwide paintball organizations and affiliations sponsoring prizes ranging from trophies to equipment and cash in value from $80 to $100,000.

 

Who is the "typical" paintball player?

People, from all walks of life, play paintball. As paintball involves roles suitable for every type of person, ages vary from young children to elder adults. Children and adults, young and old, male or female can be seen together on the field at any given time. Even some persons with physical disabilities play.

 

Is paintball a safe sport to play?

The Insurance Underwriters of America have listed paintball as one of the safest player participation sports in the world. It is said to be safer than bowling and golf as far as reported injuries

 

What should a first time player wear?

High top tennis shoes, jeans or sweat pants, and a sweatshirt - preferably something with colors that tend to blend with the environment. Safety equipment is provided at the field, and depending on where and when you're playing, one should consider bringing insect repellent.

 

Are paintballs harmful?

The shell of a paintball is made of gelatin, and the filling is made up of non-toxic, water-soluble ingredients. All ingredients are biodegradable.

 

What do paintball guns use to shoot the ball?

Paintball guns can use CO2, compressed air (CA), or nitrogen (sometimes also referred to as compressed air since the composition of atmosphere is about 70% nitrogen) - all of which are very safe for people to use.

 

How many paintballs will a person shoot during a day?

The average rental player will shoot around 200 paintballs in a day's play. The average tournament player shoots between 1500 to 2500.

 

What are the costs of playing Paintball?

As paintball is a relatively new sport, the market for equipment has not quite reached the magnitude of other activities. For this reason, the sport may be inherently expensive. Group outings greatly reduce these costs, but in the long run, the expense may be a trivial expense for a satisfying day of play. Paintballs generally range from $0.04 to $0.06 per ball, and a beginner's field package including a rental gun, CO2 air, and field pass may cost about $15 for the day.
